Pádraig Rynne, Caoimhe Ní Fhlatharta & Tara Breen
Limerick, Co. Limerick - Ireland
Presented in association with Belltable and the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance at University of Limerick. The workshop accompanies a concert by Notify with Séamus & Caoimhe Uí Fhlatharta at Dolan's on Friday 24th November '23.
In this unique workshop entitled sean-nós and trad creativity, musicians and singers are invited to learn from three of Ireland’s most celebrated Irish musicians; Pádraig Rynne (concertina), Tara Breen (fiddle) and sean-nós singer & fiddle player Caoimhe Ní Fhlatharta.
Deeply immersed in the music traditions of County Clare and of the Connemara Gaeltacht, Pádraig, Tara and Caoimhe are all recognised as musicians who are at the leading edge of the living tradition, charting new musical territories and building new diverse audiences for Irish music.
Centered on creativity and with the encouragement and experience of these tutors, participants will:
- review traditional Irish music frameworks and explore how these can be opened up for collaboration
- experience the oldest and the latest contemporary approaches to vocal and melody arrangements
- learn up to two sean-nós songs
- incorporate and learn Irish melody approaches that work with these songs, as well as standalone pieces
- create new arrangements for these songs
This workshop is part of a series of 4 workshops taking place in Portlaoise, Limerick, Cork and Ennis. These workshops accompany a series of special collaborative concerts by Notify with Séamus & Caoimhe Uí Fhlatharta, funded by the Arts Council | Traditional Arts.
